Zenus, a developer of facial-recognition software, and Fielddrive, an on-site event-tech company, have jointly won top honors in the 18th edition of the Tech Watch Award. The honor was presented to representatives of the winning companies by judging panel chair Corbin Ball at IBTM World in Barcelona, Spain, on Wednesday afternoon. The panel had previously shortlisted nine technology suppliers in advance of the event, all of whom were given the opportunity to showcase their solutions in the Exploratory Zone in the exhibit hall.
While Zenus developed the facial-recognition solution, Fielddrive has fully embraced it and integrated the technology into its registration platform, successfully deploying it at large conferences with nearly 10,000 attendees. Plans are afoot to utilize the solution at even larger events in the coming year.
New to this year's competition was a People's Choice Award, allowing attendees and the general public to vote online via the IBTM World website. That honor went to Kubify for its Learning Toolbox solution, an innovative e-poster platform for scientific and academic conferences. Learning Toolbox combines the low-tech familiarity of a small poster card with a highly interactive app that provides access to a wide variety of multimedia material -- and serves as a chat and communication platform between the researcher and all interested parties. More than 400 people voted for this inaugural edition of the new award.
IBTM World runs through Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via.
