The final quarter of the year is going to be very busy, but planners report attendance numbers still aren't back to prepandemic levels.

Here are some other takeaways from this current survey cycle.

  • Demand for new events remains strong. 68 percent of planners are booking or actively sourcing, consistent with activity levels in August.
  • Optimism remains high. Only 16 percent are less optimistic than they were in August.
  • It’ll be a very busy Q4. Sixty-two percent of planners will produce their next event before the end of the year.
  • For most meeting planners, the number of meetings produced has returned to prepandemic levels. Only 27 percent report they produced fewer events this year, compared with before the pandemic. Of planners who organize events of greater than 5,000 attendees, only 10 percent produced fewer events this year. Among all planners, 60 percent report they’ll produce even more events in 2023.
  • But attendance is down across the board. Forty-two percent of planners report their attendance this year was less than 75 percent of what it was pre-Covid. Though planners expect attendance to grow next year, 55 percent of planners expect their 2023 attendance to be less than 90 percent of their prepandemic levels. In the latest findings from our ongoing research, demand remains strong and Q4 will be busy.
