The 2019 EsportsTravel Summit will be held June 25–27 in Atlantic City. Presented by SportsTravel, part of Northstar Meetings Group, the Summit will be hosted by Meet AC and the Atlantic City Sports Commission, with support from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and INGAME.
Focused on the fast-growing esports and video-game events industry and its opportunities for destinations and venues, the Summit is focused exclusively on these competitions and how the travel industry can profit from them. Attendees from esports organizations and the travel and tourism industry will network and build partnerships while taking part in educational programs and experiencing the attractions of Atlantic City.
"We are truly excited to partner with Meet AC and the Atlantic City Sports Commission, given their commitment to positioning Atlantic City as a hub for esports tournaments and events," said Timothy Schneider, founder of the EsportsTravel Summit and chairman of the Sports Division of Northstar Travel Group, parent company of Northstar Meetings Group, which also organizes the annual TEAMS Conference & Expo.
The EsportsTravel Summit was launched as part of the TEAMS Conference & Expo in Orlando in 2017 and spun off into its own standalone event in Las Vegas in July 2018. The event set out to meet the demand from organizers of esports events as well as destinations and hospitality brands seeking to better understand and profit from esports. Active fans of esports are estimated to number 191 million, according to analytics company Newzoo, and this market continues to grow, presenting significant opportunities for venues, destinations and organizations that know how to leverage esports events and connect with their fans and followers.
"Esports has the potential to become the future of spectator sports," said Casino Reinvestment Development Authority Executive Director Matt Doherty. "Hosting the EsportsTravel Summit this June will position Atlantic City as a hub for esports tournaments and events."
In addition to its range of activities and attractions, Atlantic City will serve as an ideal destination as Drone Expo International will be opening at the Atlantic City Convention Center just as the EsportsTravel Summit concludes. Registrants to the esports event will receive a one-day exhibit-hall pass for Drone Expo East and get a chance to see a demonstration race by the event's new drone-racing league.
"We are thrilled to host the 2019 EsportsTravel Summit in Atlantic City," said Jim Wood, president and CEO for Meet AC and the Atlantic City Sports Commission. "By hosting this high-caliber event, it will help guide the future growth of esports tournaments and events in our destination."
