The 10 Best Beaches in the United States

Clearwater, Fla., is number one on TripAdvisor's 2019 list.

Clearwater Beach, Fla., is the top beach in the U.S., according to TripAdvisor’s “2019 Best Beaches in the U.S.”  The annual rankings are based on traveler reviews and ratings gathered on the TripAdvisor website over a 12-month period.  Following are the top 10 (for a complete list, visit TripAdvisor). 1. Clearwater Beach, Fla.


For the second year in a row, Clearwater has claimed the top spot on TripAdvisor’s roundup. The surrounding 35 miles of coastline offer everything from activities along a lively promenade to serene white-sand shores. 

"Clearwater Beach continues to be one of the best beaches in the world, and it's special to have the community reaffirm that it is the No. 1 beach in America for the second-straight year," said Visit St. Pete/Clearwater vice president of digital and communications Leroy Bridges. "Having nearby St. Pete Beach also rank at No. 4 underscores why we think we’re home to America's best beaches."


2. Ka’anapali Beach, Lahaina, Hawaii


Ka’anapali is “a three-mile stretch of heaven,” according to the local Beach Resort Association. Abutting the shoreline is an open-air village complex with shops, restaurants and a whaling museum.


3. Panama City Beach, Fla.


Home to 27 miles of beaches, two beachfront state parks, city and county parks, and 100 public beach access points, visitors to PCB won’t have trouble finding a space to lay their towels in the sand. The area, between Rosemary Beach and Saint Andrews Park, features four major conference resorts and additional venues that offer a total of more than 160,000 square feet of meeting space.


4. St. Pete Beach, Fla.


St. Pete Beach is set on a barrier island off the Pinellas County mainland, west of St. Petersburg and just 20 miles south of Clearwater Beach.


5. Pensacola Beach, Fla.


Anchored at the western tip of Florida on the barrier island of Santa Rosa, Pensacola Beach’s surroundings draw sun lovers, fishing enthusiasts and environmentalists alike. 


6. Siesta Key, Fla. 


Big-city amenities mixed with small-town charm make Sarasota County and its beaches – including Siesta Key – an inviting location. Siesta’s crescent-shaped beach offers access to limestone outcroppings that surround tidal pools and colorful coral reefs.


7. Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area, Puako, Hawaii


Hawaii’s volcanic western coastline is home to Hapuna Beach and its ideal conditions for swimming, bodyboarding, sunbathing and snorkeling.


8. St. Augustine Beach, Fla. 


In addition to its glorious coastline, St. Augustine visitors can enjoy brick-lined streets and delight in the city's European flavor, with centuries-old buildings, horse-drawn carriage rides and narrow courtyards.


9. Fort Lauderdale Beach, Fla.  


Greater Fort Lauderdale’s 23 miles of beachfront join an impressive art scene, world-class restaurants, craft breweries, nightlife, casinos and the Everglades to draw travelers.


10. Driftwood Beach, Jeckyll Island, Ga. 


Part of Georgia’s Golden Isles, Driftwood Beach is home to a majestic “tree graveyard.” Driftwood beach extends from the waterfront to the Sea Resort and Conference Center. The area is approximately 75 miles south of Savannah, Ga., 65 miles north of Jacksonville, Fla., and 280 miles southeast of Atlanta.
