Destinations International has promoted Melissa Cherry from chief marketing officer to chief operating officer, along with other personnel changes announced today by Don Welsh, president and CEO of the association.
Cherry, formerly senior vice president of marketing and cultural tourism at Choose Chicago, joined DI in 2016, when it was still known as Destination Marketing Association International. "She led the rebranding of the association in 2017 and was recognized by ASAE with a 2018 Gold Circle Award in the Rebranding Campaign category," noted Welsh. "Anyone who knows Melissa or has worked with her knows about her attention to detail, strong leadership skills and her mentorship for those around her. We are confident she will lead our team to continued success."
In her new role, Cherry will take charge of an effort to consolidate the organization's core revenue areas, including membership, products, sponsorship, global growth development, information technology and overall brand management.
DI also has promoted Andreas Weissenborn to senior director of research and advocacy, named Matt Ozuna advocacy and data manager. The organization also announced two new hires: Quineesa Smith as membership engagement account manager, and Barbra Gustis as executive vice president of educational development and meetings. Gustis replaces Colleen Phalen, who is leaving DI to pursue other opportunities.
