Why Bali Is a Bucket-List Destination for Incentive Groups

This exotic destination, and properties like Banyan Tree Ungasan, offers incentive travelers a getaway like nowhere else.

It's a destination that brings to mind images of sandy beaches, incredible sunsets and enough photo opportunities to drive any visitor's Instagram followers crazy with jealousy. In other words: Bali is an ideal incentive destination. The island offers a wealth of attractions for incentive visitors looking for unforgettable cultural experiences or next-level relaxation.

Striking cultural sites include Pura Taman Ayun Temple, a 17th complex of shrines and courts of Hindu worship, surrounded by a serene fish pond; the rolling green Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, dating back centuries and stretching across some 600 hectares; and the astounding Monkey Forest in the city of Ubud, where visitors dodge hundreds of monkeys running about the natural reserve and three temples. For something more relaxing, visitors should set aside time for one of Bali's numerous beaches, including the famous Kuta, exclusive Nusa Dua or peaceful Pantai Indah. And, of course, there is no shortage of shopping, dining and nightlife options.

An incentive program at a destination of this caliber demands a property that brings the same level of luxury and memorability. Look no further than Banyan Tree Ungasan, a stunning all-villa resort, far from the packed resort areas such as Seminyak and Kuta, in a secluded location on the southern peninsula of the island. The property exudes Balinese charm, from a blessing ceremony (complete with pinch of rice on one's temple and flower behind the ear) upon arrival at the expansive open-air lobby to the waft of incense in the villa, to design elements such as antique sculptures and decorative stone columns in the pool area.

Banyan Tree Ungasan sits more than 225 feet above sea level on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, fully showcasing the view throughout the property, whether relaxing in the infinity pool, enjoying a Balinese massage at its world-class spa or sampling the offerings from one of its several top-notch restaurants. These dining options include Bambu, which overlooks the infinity pool and serves up a sprawling breakfast buffet; the peaceful Tamarind restaurant, set in the Banyan Tree Spa and serving up dishes that incorporate locally sourced Balinese ingredients and spices; and the property's delightful pool bar. But the standout restaurant for visitors is the Ju-Ma-Na Restaurant & Bar, where floor-to-ceiling windows offer some of the best views in the region, with a menu of creative cocktails and a menu of French cuisine with a Japanese twist.

The property also offers a number of group spaces, including the 242-square-foot Lotus Ballroom, 517-square-foot Melati room and 2,000-square-foot Nusa Indah room.

Banyan Tree Ungasan offers two- and three-bedroom pool villas, each offering an outdoor garden, infinity pool, smaller jet pool and more.

But while Banyan Tree Ungasan offers a wealth of amenities, visitors might be forgiven for not wanting to leave their room. It's made up of 73 one-, two- and three-bedroom pool villas, each offering an outdoor garden, infinity pool, smaller jet pool, Balinese balé (outdoor pavilion), as well as sprawling indoor space. The expansive bathrooms include both an indoor and outdoor shower while the bedrooms' floor-to-ceiling glass doors open directly into the pool. Guests can even enjoy their own in-villa barbecue.

Those incentive winners who do prefer to explore beyond the resort can get direct access to Melasti Beach (reached by getting a ride from one of the property's golf carts then down a flight of steps that end at one of the most Instagrammable beach sites in the area — (though you might have to wait for the numerous engagement and wedding photoshoots taking place here to get your own pic). Banyan Tree Ungasan operates its own beach club on a stretch of the beach, providing umbrellas and towel service to guests.

A bit further afield, Bali's famed Uluwatu Temple is just under eight miles from the resort. Set on the western tip of the peninsula, it offers one of the best views of the sunset you are likely to find not just in Bali, but anywhere in the world.
