Reporting on Covid-19's Impact on Meetings
Tune in on Oct. 16 as Northstar’s media editors from the U.K., the U.S. and Asia discuss what they're watching and what's on the horizon, as part of IMEX Community Day.
The IMEX Group has released "The Regenerative Revolution, A
New Paradigm for Event Management," a report that calls on the meetings industry
to embrace a circular economy — one that is built on reusing, refurbishing and sharing resources to minimize waste, pollution and carbon emissions. The guide
is the first in the exhibition company’s #Natureworks series, sponsored by
Marriott International. IMEX Group plans
to release more reports on the links between nature and business over the next
year.
The report, written by Guy Bigwood, managing director of the
Global Destination Sustainability Movement, reveals the potential economic advantages
of a circular economy. Food waste and climate change are among the issues covered
in the report. The guide also includes actions that events-industry professionals can take
to be part of the circular economy, and it highlights the vision of more than
1,000 global organizations that have united behind the New Plastics Economy
Initiative.
The report concludes by outlining a new events framework, Hannuwa,
which aims "to
inspire, educate and guide event professionals on their transition to more
regenerative and circular event management." IMEX plans to practice Hannuwa for its face-to-face events once they return.
"From the start
we knew this information, the case studies, the research and these voices were
going to make a huge impact," said Carina Bauer, CEO
of the IMEX Group.
"Our Regenerative Revolution report is a call to
action and a powerful reminder that, as human beings, we are nature. Planet
earth is our home. And it’s the only one we have. Now is the time for us all to
act collectively, not in shame but in hope and with purpose. We all need to change
our ways, and to lead with conviction. With the generous support of Marriott
International we believe this ground-breaking report will inspire change and
action; proving that our industry can — and should — positively regenerate, not
merely restart.”
