In this era of unpredictability, instability and security
concerns, the travel industry has proven surprisingly resilient, enjoying more
than 10 straight years of growth. But while the outlook remains positive, it is
important to maintain a sense of caution.
At the most recent Northstar Leadership Forum, held in Sea
Island, Ga., we had the chance to speak one-on-one with Roger Dow,
president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. Despite the industry's resilience, Dow stressed that
this is not the time to let down our guards. He asserted the importance of
making a strong business case for the value of meetings — to city leaders, corporate
executives and policymakers. In this wide-ranging discussion, Dow touched on
topics such as overtourism, responsible travel and the impact of meetings on the
global economy.
