Top Restaurants Near the Georgia World Congress Center

Atlanta's convention district offers tastes to suit every palate. 

One of the premier convention facilities in the United States -- and the third largest in the country with 1.5 million square feet of exhibit space -- the Georgia World Congress Center occupies some prime real estate in the heart of Atlanta. Steps away are the 22-acre Centennial Olympic Park, Mercedes-Benz Stadium (home of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons) and a variety of restaurants to suit every taste. What follows is a select sampling of eateries offering a delicious diversion for attendees.

The Sun Dial Restaurant

Located in the 1,073-room Westin Peachtree Plaza, the Sun Dial is Atlanta’s only tri-level dining complex featuring a restaurant on one floor, a cocktail lounge on another and an observatory offering 360-degree views of the city up on top. The food is seasonal contemporary American as prepared by chef Justin Mason, one standout being the seared Alaskan halibut with confit heirloom cherry tomatoes, baby bok choy, shitake mushrooms and tomato vinaigrette. Semiprivate dining areas are available for parties of 20 to 50, while the bar level offers lounge-style seating for up to 70. The observatory, dubbed The View, is perched 723 feet above the street and can accommodate up to 96 seated or 150 standing. The entire restaurant can be bought out for groups of up to 320 people. A recently renovated steak house with unique private dining options, AG is tucked inside the 444-room Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta. Favored dishes here include the crispy La Belle Farm duck breast with cartelized onion puree, baby turnips, grilled peaches and cherry gastrique; and the AG baked potato with blue crab, Nueske bacon, Cotswold cheese, béarnaise and sour cream. The venue offers two private dining spaces: The Kitchen features a chef's table and seating for 10, while the Distillery can accommodate 12 and offers a "mixology experience," with guests seated among a display of bitters, herbs, whiskeys and branded garnishes. Known for its sweeping views of Centennial Olympic Park and the Fountain of Rings, Prime Meridian at the 1,070-room Omni Atlanta Hotel at CNN Center dispenses upscale American cuisine in elegant digs. Executive chef Greg Wright uses local ingredients to concoct favorites such as sweet tea Georgia chicken with Brussels sprouts and sweet potato hash, smoked bacon and Vidalia onion cream sauce; and curry jumbo shrimp blended with tomato, raisin, almond and Carolina gold rice. Those who splurge for dessert will delight in rose-petal crème brûlée with a raspberry and pistachio macaroon garnish. A newly renovated space within Atlanta's CNN Center, McCormick & Schmick's features a menu reflecting coastal creations from the Pacific Rim, Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, with ingredients sourced from local ranches, farms and wineries. Menu highlights include buttermilk fried oysters with fried green tomatoes, okra and horseradish slaw; and open blue cobia fish with black-bean puree and street corn. Yet another gem within the CNN Center, Dantanna's Downtown features an eclectic American menu with something for everyone. Dinner staples include the Berkwood Farms Berkshire pork rib chop with granny smith apple-bourbon sauce. The adventurous yet casual eater might opt for the farm-raised bison burger with brie cheese, fried jalapeño slices and smoked tomato aioli (pictured above).
