2020 Stella Award Gold Winner: The Seaport Hotel in Boston

Sustainability makes good business sense — helping to reduce overall costs, position an organization as an industry leader and of course, benefit the environment. Today’s meeting planners increasingly strive to incorporate more environmentally friendly practices into their events.

The 5th Annual Stella Awards, presented by Northstar Meetings Group's Meetings & Conventions and Successful Meetings, recognize organizations across the globe that consistently deliver superlative service and innovation across all sectors of the meetings and events industry. Each year, the Stella Awards celebrate hoteliers that have heeded the call for creative and rigorous sustainability initiatives.

Outstanding strategies offered by past winners and 2021 nominees include sustainable food and beverage planning; extensive recycling programs, socially conscious team-building activities; and green meeting initiatives, such as using post-consumer recycled products; paperless communication; and green transportation options, among others.

In total, the Stella Awards honor hotels and other industry suppliers in 17 categories and 6 regions worldwide. In addition to Best Sustainability Initiative, categories include Best Hotel/Resort Event Space, Best Food & Beverage, Best CVB/DMO, Best Convention Center and more.

With nearly 7,000 public votes received in 2020, the 2021 Stella Awards will prove even more meaningful, recognizing those organizations who have a proven track record of excellence — and those who are best positioned to excel as the industry emerges from a global health crisis.

“As we cautiously return to the business of meeting face-to-face, planners will look for destinations, venues and other partners that they can trust to provide a best-in-class experience,” noted Loren Edelstein, Vice President and Content Director for Northstar Meetings Group. “A Stella Award provides that level of confidence. Especially now, peer-to-peer approval holds more weight than any other accolade.”

The Stella Awards (#StellaAwards2021) are open for public voting until May 14, 2021. Awards finalists will be determined by total votes during this period. Winners will be determined by a select jury of meetings industry experts.
