The Federal Aviation Administration will invest $481 million in airport-infrastructure projects nationwide, funding improvements aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency and airport operations.
Announced by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy, the funding will be distributed through the Airport Infrastructure Grants program. The FAA will award 191 grants to airports across 36 states and two territories.
Eligible projects include planning and development, terminal renovations, baggage system upgrades, runway and taxiway rehabilitation, roadway and access improvements, and other safety-related infrastructure initiatives.
"We're investing in airport infrastructure that keeps travelers safe and airports operating efficiently," FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said in a statement. "These grants will help airports across the country meet the demands of today's travelers while preparing for the future."
Major airport projects receive funding

The funding announcement is the latest step in what Duffy has called a "Golden Age of Travel" agenda. Earlier this year, Duffy outlined plans to modernize the nation's aging air-traffic control infrastructure, while also emphasizing the role airports play in accommodating growing passenger demand and improving the traveler experience. The airport investments come as the aviation industry continues to grapple with aging infrastructure, ongoing staffing constraints, and increasing demand for both business and leisure travel.
