Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE, has been named the next president and CEO of the American Society of Association Executives, effective Sept. 1.

Currently president and CEO of the Chicago-based Association Forum, Mason will move into ASAE's top role following Susan Robertson, CAE, who has been steering the organization through this past difficult year since the death of president and CEO John Graham IV, FASAE, CAE, in January 2020. Mason has been with the Association Forum since 2014.

"After a thorough and extensive search process, the board of directors has voted unanimously to name Michelle Mason as its next president and CEO," said Stephen J. Caldeira, president and CEO of the Household & Commercial Products Association, chair of the ASAE board and co-chair of the search committee. "Throughout her career, Michelle has demonstrated a commitment to the association community and ASAE, and a proven ability to drive alignment and results in a complex, multistakeholder environment."

Michelle Mason will lead ASAE starting in September.

Speaking of her new role, Mason said, "I am honored to build upon the successful foundation at ASAE. I look forward to collaborating with a dynamic board of directors and a dedicated staff team as we create an accessible, inclusive and transformational community for members and industry." She added a heartfelt thank you to Susan Robertson for her leadership and for helping to pave the way for women to advance in the industry. Robertson was the first woman to lead ASAE as president and CEO in its 100-year history, after previously serving as its executive vice president and president of the ASAE Research Foundation.

More than 48,000 association executives and industry partners are members of ASAE, representing 7,400 organizations. The group provides resources, education, ideas and advocacy to support the association and nonprofit community.
