JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa, All-Inclusive, will debut Sept. 30 on Costa Rica’s Guanacaste Coast. The first all-inclusive JW Marriott resort is a conversion of the former Dreams La Mareas; the $60 million transformation was led by developer and operator Mullen Real Estate Capital.
Situated 49 miles from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, the beachfront property has 415 guest rooms, including 45 Griffin Club suites, which offer elevated service and amenities.
The resort has 10,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and 11 food and beverage outlets, including Casado, offering international fare; Namuyaki, serving Asian dishes; seafood eatery Puerto Limón; and Italian restaurant, Luciano.
Additional amenities include 17 swimming pools, a 16,000-square-foot spa and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
When the property was announced by Marriott in 2025, Uriel Burak, Marriott International's vice president of development for the Caribbean and Latin America, said, "This project marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration with Mullen Real Estate Capital, a pioneer in the all-inclusive sector, within the CALA region.”
The property's setting, Costa Elena, is an oceanfront eco-resort community within the corner of northern Guanacaste on the Pacific coast. Spread across 3,000 untouched acres of tropical dry forest and ten miles of pristine coastline, the destination is adjacent to the Area de Conservación Guanacaste, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest environmentally protected area in northern Guanacaste. In addition to the JW Marriott, the master plan for the community currently comprises Founders Estates, a collection of luxury villas for ownership or rental, and the Costa Elena Beach Club. Future developments in the works are convenience shops, restaurants, a café, fitness and wellness facilities, hiking and biking trails, additional beach clubs and a nature preserve.
