The Grand Victoria Casino, which offers riverside gaming in Elgin, has been sold by MGM Resorts and its venture partner to Eldorado Resorts for $327.5 million. The deal should close within 12 months.

New in the West Loop is Punch Bowl Social, a 30,000-square-foot venue with private karaoke rooms, bocce, bowling, arcade games and Southern-inspired cuisine courtesy of James Beard-award winner Hugh Acheson.

Local Update

The W Chicago City Center, a 403-room property in the Loop Financial District, recently debuted the first phase of a major makeover. The vaulted Beaux Arts-style lobby has been revamped to better showcase the building's 1928 roots and original design, and a new on-site restaurant, Midland Social Club, pays homage to one of the property's prior incarnations as the Midland Club, a private gentleman's club. It's all infused with modern Chicago touches, such as work from local graffiti artists. A second-floor seating area offers views of the entryway and spaces below.

The luxury LondonHouse Chicago, part of Hilton's Curio Collection, now offers a modern version of high tea daily from 1 to 4 p.m. Savory and sweet bites are served alongside Sparrow House teas.

The Wheelhouse, a 21-room boutique hotel, is on the verge of opening just down the street from storied Wrigley Field. The ultra-hip lodging will offer features such as a rooftop deck for private events, a basement cocktail bar and the Union Full Board pizzeria.

What's billed as the largest Marriott hotel to open in all of North America last year, the 1,205-room Marriott Marquis Chicago debuted last September in McCormick Square. This mammoth property rises for 40 stories and is directly connected to McCormick Place and adjacent to the recently opened 10,000-seat Wintrust Arena. The hotel has approximately 93,000 square feet of high-tech meeting space, including two 25,000-square-foot ballrooms and a clutch of breakout rooms totaling 43,000 square feet.

In the West Loop, the 159-room Ace Hotel Chicago opened for business last August. The lifestyle property is in a repurposed historic building, with the original Fulton Market landmark cheese-factory facade preserved on one side. The property's signature bar, Waydown, has a rooftop lounge on the seventh floor offering views of the downtown skyline. The Ace has 7,760 square feet of meeting and event space, including the 2,876-square-foot Prairie, a rooftop garden terrace.
