Convention service managers work tirelessly behind the scenes to bring event after event to life and help meeting planners shine. The annual CSM of the Year awards, sponsored by Northstar Meetings Group and the Event Service Professionals Association, recognizes top players in the industry who demonstrate a keen knowledge of the convention business. This year's winners hail from Colorado Springs, Co.; Tampa, Fla.; and Palm Beach, Fla.
Convention Center CSM of the Year
Director of convention services, Tampa Convention Center
Suzanne Seder has spent 20 years managing convention services for the Tampa Convention Center, but says she still love the job.
"Every day is a new and exciting challenge," Seder said. "After two decades in the industry, I still look forward to conquering obstacles, surfacing new ideas and sourcing the right resources to support successful events."
Her previous experience as a corporate meeting planner has equipped her with a strong understanding of the needs and expectations of planners. In addition to helping the event team create above-and-beyond experiences for clients, Seder enjoys giving back and serving as a mentor to those who are new to the industry.
Hotel CSM of the Year
Senior conference manager, the Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Co.
Jerry Homzy brings more than two decades of experience to his role as senior conference manager of the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Co. His calm and collected nature allow him to manage unexpected event challenges with ease, and build strong relationships with industry vendors, peers and clients.
Homzy also credits the venue's stellar staff with helping to make meetings such a success at the resort, which recently added a 150,000-square-foot exhibit hall to its already impressive 185,000 square feet of event space.
"I am able to do my job well because of the resourceful and talented team at the Broadmoor," he said. "This recognition is a testament to our exceptional collaboration, which makes everything run smoothly."
CVB CSM of the Year
Senior manager of destination services, Discover The Palm Beaches
For the past two decades, Yvonne Williams has served on the destination services team for Discover The Palm Beaches -- with 12 years in her current role as senior manager of the department. Her responsibilities include customer relationship management and supporting the global sales team in bringing business to Florida's Palm Beaches.
Williams is passionate about providing guests with the tools and resources needed to make them feel like a local. She also prioritizes connecting planners with corporate social responsibility projects that allow their groups to give back.
"Receiving this award means that my genuine hospitality is recognized and appreciated," Yvonne said. "When guests arrive at the Palm Beaches, it is my mission to make them feel like they are family in my home."
