Gone are the days of the boring, big-box convention center. Today’s preferred venues feature fully customizable spaces and bold designs.

NORTHEAST

Gold: Jacob K. Javits Convention Center

One of the premier convention facilities in North America, the Javits Center spans 3.4 million square feet across six city blocks in Manhattan's Hudson Yards neighborhood. The center hosts more than 140 events annually and supports nearly 40,000 exhibitors. The venue's scale is matched by versatility, offering more than 500,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space, 122 meeting rooms and the ability to accommodate major trade shows, conventions, executive meetings, consumer events and large-scale corporate gatherings.

With a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability, the center is home to one of the largest green roofs in the United States, and also has a one-acre rooftop farm, a renewable energy infrastructure, and the JavitsCares program, which redistributes food and materials to local organizations throughout the city. Surrounded by thousands of hotel rooms, world-class dining, cultural attractions and multiple transportation options, the venue gives attendees access to one of the world's most desirable business destinations.

Silver: Albany Capital Center 

A modern 53,000-square-foot glass convention facility in downtown Albany, N.Y., the Albany Capital Center accommodates events ranging from 10 to 5,000 people. The facility features 22,500 square feet of flexible multipurpose space with high ceilings (a 26-foot clearance) on the upper level, as well as flexible breakout rooms totaling 9,200 square feet, a 4,600-square-foot ballroom and 10,000 square feet of prefunction space. Enclosed climate-controlled walkways connect to the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, the Egg Performing Arts Center and the MVP Arena.

Bronze: Baltimore Convention Center

Over the past year, the Baltimore Convention Center has hosted 97 events, welcomed more than 415,000 attendees, supported 1,760 jobs and generated millions of dollars in direct and indirect economic impact. The venue features 300,000 square feet of contiguous exhibition space, 85,000 square feet of breakout space across 50 rooms, and a 36,672-square-foot multifunctional ballroom. Connected to many hotels, restaurants and attractions, the BCC has a dedicated team prized for its collaborative nature. In 2025, the facility achieved Gold Level Certification through the Events Industry Council Sustainable Events Standards and continues to advance initiatives that reduce environmental impact.


SOUTHEAST

Gold: Tampa Convention Center

Celebrating more than 35 years of operational excellence, the Tampa Convention Center has 600,000 square feet of flexible event space spread across four floors. Highlights include the Exhibit Hall, a 200,000-square-foot divisible space with 30-foot ceilings; a 36,000-square-foot divisible main ballroom; and dozens of flexible breakout and meeting rooms, including prominent waterfront spaces overlooking the Hillsborough River and Tampa Bay. 

The TCC emphasizes its waterfront location, activating outdoor spaces along the Tampa Riverwalk for unique attendee experiences, all within walking distance of downtown hotels, restaurants and museums. The talented culinary team adds to the authentic and experiential guest journey by creating custom menus that reflect an event’s theme and atmosphere. Solidifying its environmental commitment, the facility has achieved LEED Silver Certification for Building Operations and Maintenance.

Silver: New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center

On the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown New Orleans, the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has 1.1 million square feet of contiguous exhibit space on a single level, and more than 3 million square feet of overall event space, including a huge 60,300-square-foot column-free ballroom known as the Great Hall. The center is the largest in the nation to earn two LEED Gold certifications; recent efforts include a 40-acre cool-roof system to improve energy efficiency, and expanded recycling and waste-diversion programs. 

Bronze: Atlantic Union Bank Convention Center (formerlyRaleigh Convention Center)

An award-winning hub for the culture, commerce and technology at the heart of North Carolina’s Triangle region, the Atlantic Union Bank Convention Center is a modern 500,000-square-foot facility with a stunning granite lobby, an elegant 32,000-square-foot ballroom and a 150,000-square-foot exhibit hall. With the Red Hat Amphitheater and the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts only steps away, visitors can enjoy conventions, meetings, concerts and plays within a three-block downtown area. Certified LEED Silver, the center engages in green initiatives, such as turning would-be food waste into compost to support a local community garden.

Finalist: Miami Beach Convention Center

Following a $640 million renovation, the Miami Beach Convention Center now offers more than 500,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 60,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, 84 breakout rooms and a seamless indoor-outdoor environment. A dedicated event-services team provides personalized support across every stage of the planning process, while digital tools, including a multilingual website with an interactive 360-degree floor plan, help streamline planning and decision-making. Certified LEED Silver, the center will welcome the 800-room Grand Hyatt Miami Beach headquarters hotel in 2027, connected to the facility via skybridge.


MIDWEST

Whether hosting conferences, sporting events, galas or other gatherings, the Grand River Center is devoted to creating experiences that attendees remember. Along the banks of the Mississippi River in Dubuque, Iowa, the facility offers more than 86,000 square feet of event, meeting and conference space. Among gathering spaces is the 30,000-square-foot exhibit hall  for large crowds, trade shows and floor events. Level 2 features a 12,000-square-foot ballroom that holds up to 1,000 guests, plus six meeting rooms. Level 3 has the all-glass, 2,400-squiare-foot River Room with a balcony over the Riverwalk that gives attendees the feeling of floating directly over the river.

Linked by covered skywalk to the adjacent Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark, and located within walking distance of historic downtown Dubuque, the facility recently added an on-site microgreen system that grows fresh produce for its culinary offerings. In addition, KultureCity Sensory Inclusive certification helps ensure that guests with autism, anxiety, PTSD and similar conditions feel comfortable at the venue.

Silver: Owensboro Convention Center

In Western Kentucky, the Owensboro Convention Center is a full-service facility overlooking the scenic Ohio River in its namesake city’s revitalized downtown. The multipurpose center has just under 102,000 square feet of available space, including a more than 44,000-square-foot exhibition hall and an 8,900-square-foot pier outside over the river. With complete in-house services, such as food and beverage, audiovisual, free WiFi and more, the venue provide planners with the tools they need to create experiences under one roof.

Bronze: Glass City Center

In the heart of downtown Toledo, Ohio, the Glass City Center combines modern amenities, exceptional customer service and a strong commitment to community impact to create experiences that rival facilities in much larger markets. The venue features the 16,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, the 75,000-square-foot column-free Expo Hall, 28 meeting rooms and state-of-the-art technology designed to meet event planners' needs. Sustainability initiatives, including energy-efficient systems, recycling programs and environmentally conscious operational practices, help make the center a responsible member of the community — and beyond.


SOUTHWEST

When it comes to meeting planning, Denver has an impressive array of advantages, including a central location, an international airport, a walkable downtown and thousands of hotel rooms, not to mention a state-of-the-art convention facility. The Colorado Convention Center — with 584,000 square feet of exhibit space and 63 meeting rooms — recently expanded, adding the 80,000-square-foot Bluebird Ballroom, which can be subdivided into 19 rooms of varying sizes, allowing for countless configurations. It’s now the largest multifunction ballroom in the state, with the capacity to host more than 7,500 attendees for a general session or 4,600 guests for a catered event. Additional ballrooms span 50,000 and 35,000 square feet, respectively.

The expansion includes a 35,000-square-foot wraparound prefunction concourse with floor-to-ceiling windows, providing new areas for between-the-meetings networking. Another signature feature is a 20,000-square-foot outdoor rooftop terrace with dramatic views of the Rocky Mountains and Denver’s skyline.

Silver: El Paso Convention Center

A premier gathering space in the Southwest, the El Paso Convention Center in Texas welcomes thousands of visitors each year for conventions, sporting events, tournaments, conferences, expos and more. Spanning 133,100 square feet, the facility has 80,000 square feet of total usable space, including three expansive exhibit halls, 14,900 square feet of additional meeting space and 17 breakout rooms. With 28-foot ceilings and flexible configurations, the venue hosts everything from large-scale trade shows and athletic competitions to executive meetings, galas and cultural events. 


FAR WEST

About 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, the coastal city of Long Beach, Calif., is the home of the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. Comprised of three entities — the convention facility, the connected Long Beach Arena and the Long Beach Performing Arts Center — this complex can host a wide variety of events. The convention center has more than 400,000 square feet flexible meeting and event space, including three exhibition halls and 34 multipurpose meeting rooms. The arena is able to host trade shows and accommodating up to 13,000 seats, and has a ballroom that can host up to 4,900 people for receptions.

The performing arts center comprises the 3,000-seat Terrace Theater and the adjacent Beverly O’Neill Theater, a more intimate space with seating for up to 800. The complex also provides unique outdoor spaces for gatherings, including the Terrace Plaza and the Cove, and is situated in the heart of downtown, within easy walking distance to local hotels, restaurants, shopping and the beach.

Silver: Reno-Sparks Convention Center

As one of the top 40 largest convention facilities in the United States, the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nev., offers 600,000 square feet of flexible space, five expansive exhibit halls totaling 381,000 square feet, 53 adaptable meeting rooms and a capacity for up to 36,100 attendees, all on a single level. Drive-in freight access, built-in utilities, and more than 100,000 square feet of prefunction space provide the infrastructure to execute seamless events on any scale. The venue is just10 minutes from Reno-Tahoe International Airport

Bronze: Seattle Convention Center

With a two-building campus, the Seattle Convention Center provides accessible spaces for events of all sizes. The venue’s original building, the LEED Silver-certified Arch, features up to 205,700 square feet of exhibition space, 44,628 square feet of ballroom space and dozens of flexible meeting rooms. The LEED Platinum-certified Summit, one block north of the Arch, offers 574,630 square feet of event space, a large outdoor Garden Terrace and sweeping city views. Within walking distance are several hotels, restaurants and cultural attractions, such as the Pike Place Market and the 17-block Waterfront Park, which was recently transformed to the tune of $800 million.


INTERNATIONAL AND U.S. TERRITORIES

Gold: The BMO Centre at Stampede Park

In Western Canada, in the heart of Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District and at the center of Stampede Park, the BMO Centre recently expanded to now offer more than 1 million square feet, including over 500,000 square feet of flexible event space and 350,000 square feet for exhibits. Key spaces include the 50,000-square-foot Champions Ballroom with Rocky Mountain views, the 20,000-square-foot Percheron Ballroom and The Exchange, a hotel lobby-style hub anchored by Canada’s largest indoor fireplace and a central bar designed to foster meaningful connections between attendees.

Combined with configurable meeting room options, the center offers the flexibility to accommodate everything from intimate executive meetings to large international conventions. The venue’s commitment to sustainability is exemplified by energy-efficient systems, waste-reduction initiatives and responsible-sourcing practices supporting environmentally conscious events.

Silver: VIECON

In the heart of Vienna, VIECON Center — aka the Vienna Congress & Convention Center — features 785,765 square feet of flexible space, a capacity of 29,000 attendees and an experienced project team to help make congresses, exhibitions, meetings and other events take place successfully in one of the world’s safest cities. Just 20 minutes from Vienna International Airport, the center has more than 6,000 hotel rooms within walking distance and is surrounded by some of Europe’s most renowned culture and history.

Bronze: Cotai Expo at The Venetian Macao

On the Cotai Strip on the southern coast of China, about 37 miles west of Hong Kong, the Cotai Expo at the Venetian Macao has 766,800-square-foot of exhibition space. It is complemented by nearly 70,000 square feet of pillar-less ballroom space and 108 meeting rooms. With seating for up to 15,000 people, the Cotai Arena is an ideal venue for major corporate events and product launches.
