Ann Arbor is on the rise as a meetings destination. In this video interview recorded at IMEX America, Al Snow, director of sales and destination services for Destination Ann Arbor, talks with Michael Shapiro of Northstar Meetings Group about what’s drawing new groups to town.
With the openings of the Vanguard Hotel and an AC Hotel, downtown now has more than 800 hotel rooms within walking distance of restaurants and university meeting space. Snow says about 90% of the events his team is pursuing are new to the city.
Snow explains how planners can bring in speakers from the University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine, which sit right in the city. He also covers the area’s international dining scene, outdoor options such as kayaking on the Huron River, and nearby Chelsea, home to Jeff Daniels’ Purple Rose Theatre. Add easy access from Detroit’s airport, 25 minutes away, and Ann Arbor delivers big-city convenience with Midwest charm.
