After a two-year hiatus, convention centers are once again buzzing with business as large international events return to their much-missed, in-person formats.

As planners of large events look to navigate a pandemic-changed world and get business back on the books, Northstar Meetings Group's Convention Cities Index serves as an all-in-one resource to help them navigate the citywide site-selection process, based on each event's most pertinent factors. The first and only of its kind, the CCi uses a weighted ranking system with the latest data to evaluate destinations in the U.S. and around the world that are ideally suited to hosting large events.

Each city is evaluated across six categories: available exhibit space, nearby hotel rooms, average hotel cost, travel time from the nearest international airport to the convention center, the number of direct flights per month and the city's safety level for travelers. Planners can compare this fourth iteration to past indexes for a historical view of the data.

In addition to detailed metrics for each city, the CCi analyzes how and why the lists of the top 25 U.S. cities and top 25 global cities have changed over the past six months. While exhibit space amounts and travel times have remained relatively stable, changes in the number of nearby hotel rooms, average hotel costs, number of monthly flights and average safety score have played pivotal roles in determining this year's lists.
