An estimated 25 million people will travel within the United States for the Thanksgiving holiday, according to the Transportation Security Administration], a 7 percent increase over last year and the busiest travel season on record at some major airports.

When reviewing travel patterns from last year, passenger-rights company AirHelp found that more than 153,000 flights departed from U.S. airports between the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (Nov. 21, 2017) and the Monday following the holiday (Nov. 27). Below is additional data from last year’s Thanksgiving travel period, which offers clues to what passengers can expect this year.

• The Sunday after Thanksgiving is the worst day to fly, as airports will be the most crowded.
• Flights taking off between 6:00 a.m. and 11:59 a.m. experience the fewest disruptions.
