In light of escalating political rhetoric and shifting cross-border policies under the current U.S. presidential administration, Northstar Meetings Group conducted a targeted research initiative to better understand how Canadian meeting and event planners are responding to these developments. The goal of this “rapid response” survey was to assess whether recent statements and proposed policies are influencing planners’ decisions about where they conduct their meetings.

This Northstar PULSE Snapshot offers a timely lens into how geopolitical developments are reshaping event planning decisions, and the results are loud and clear:

  • Nearly all (95 percent) said their stakeholders have voiced concerns about U.S. events.
  • More than half of respondents have canceled events in the U.S. as a direct result of the U.S. administration's policies and rhetoric.
  • Nearly 6 in 10 respondents have completely stopped considering the U.S. for their events.
