The 500-room Omni PGA Frisco Resort has opened in this fast-growing Texas city, in time to host the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship May 21-28. Developed in partnership with the PGA of America and the city of Frisco, the $520 million property features two championship golf courses designed by Beau Welling and Gil Hanse, and 10 four-bedroom golf villas with views of the layouts. For meetings, there is more than 127,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space.
"This first-of-its-kind resort marks an exciting milestone for Omni Hotels & Resorts,” said Jeff Smith, vice president and managing director of the property. "It’s an ambitious concept where we get to showcase the best of Texas, while casting a spotlight on Frisco as a unique destination experience for visitors and locals alike.”
The partners have created a culinary, recreation, relaxation, meetings and entertainment destination with 13 dining outlets; four pools, including an adults-only rooftop infinity pool; and a destination Mokara spa. PGA Frisco also will be the new home of the PGA Headquarters for its 28,000 PGA Golf Professionals and players of all abilities. A retail and entertainment district features dining and shopping options, as well as an outdoor stage for concerts and other programming.
Among the restaurants is the signature Trick Rider, an upscale steak-and-seafood eatery that pays homage to famed rodeo stars and Texan culture with its design details, such as the hand-cut-crystal horse chandelier and a horseshoe-shaped bar. There is also a Lounge by TopGolf for casual dining and fun.
The property sports clean architectural lines using a mix of stone, wood and metals, drawn from the modern ranch-style homes found throughout the Lone Star State.
Aside from the two 18-hole courses, there will be a lighted 10-hole short course and a two-acre putting green, the PGA Frisco Coaching Center, and a practice facility that will be anchored by a clubhouse and the entertainment district.
Making up the 127,000 square feet of meeting space are the 22,000-square-foot Ryder Cup Ballroom, the 11,500-square-foot Wanamaker Ballroom, as well as the 5,000-square-foot Panther Creek Pavilion, a rustic setting with an adjoining patio and event lawn.
