Cosm, an immersive technology, media and entertainment company, is partnering with real-estate firm Bedrock to bring a cutting-edge experiential sports-and-entertainment venue to downtown Detroit. The facility will be part of Bedrock's development at Cadillac Square, adjacent to Campus Martius, a centrally located plaza that hosts a variety of seasonal attractions and performances.

It will be Cosm's fourth such venue, following the existing Cosm Los Angeles in Hollywood Park and Cosm Dallas at Grandscape, as well as a venue in Atlanta at Centennial Yards that's scheduled to open in 2025.

While the facilities don't have the striking external form of the Las Vegas Sphere, the experiences take place in an 87-foot dome with immersive projections thanks to more than 12,000 LEDs and what Cosm refers to as "shared reality" technology. The experience is meant to blend the virtual and physical worlds by using the technology to create a unique live sports or performance events. Cosm has partnerships in place with the UFC, the NBA, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, Fox Sports, ESPN and the NFL. On the docket are also productions featuring Cirque du Soleil and art installations from members of the Cosm Studios Creator Program.

Cosm promises a venue in Detroit that expands on the design of the three previous Cosm facilities, while incorporating features that are unique to the city and pay tribute to Detroit's history, revival and sense of community.

“I can’t think of a better place than Detroit for our fourth venue,” said Cosm president and CEO Jeb Terry. “Detroit embodies the right mix of sports fandom, enterprising spirit and energy, and we are honored to be part of the downtown revitalization that [prominent local businessman and Bedrock chairman and cofounder] Dan Gilbert and his team are driving.”

Bedrock's Cadillac Square also promises a multilevel market hall with sit-down and fast-casual dining options. “As just the fourth location in the world, Cosm Detroit will be the anchor of our development at Cadillac Square, and a magnet to bring people to downtown Detroit to experience the energy and vibrance in our city,” added Gilbert.

Bedrock plans to break ground on the development in 2025. Details around the timeline, opening date and schedule of events will be available soon.
