Bob Gilbert, who served as president and CEO of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International for more than 30 years, passed away on Sept. 19.

The sad news follows the organization's July announcement that Gilbert had accelerated his retirement plan as a result of a serious health issue.

In his final "HSMAI Perspective," Gilbert's industry updates to the organization's members, he shared, “I am filled with gratitude for the incredible journey and the profound relationships I have built with so many of you. I am immensely proud of the work we have accomplished together in expanding the association’s reach and impact across the globe, and the fun we have had along the way. It has truly been a privilege to serve our resilient industry.”

A statement released by HSMAI remembered Gilbert as "a beloved friend and admired mentor to many in the hospitality industry… who will be missed by the industry at large, and the association will benefit from his leadership for many years to come."

"To celebrate his career is to acknowledge his leadership and impact on the hospitality industry. Bob’s passion and commitment have been instrumental in guiding the HSMAI Foundation’s mission to attract, develop and engage the brightest talents. In recognition of Bob’s legacy, all donations made to the HSMAI Foundation Century Campaign through Dec. 31, 2024, will be considered in his honor. Contributions will support the Foundation’s continued efforts in education, diversity and leadership development, embodying Bob’s vision for a stronger hospitality community.

The HSMAI family’s thoughts are with Bob’s cherished family today and always. HSMAI will share information regarding arrangements when they are complete."
