Where to Celebrate Global Meetings Industry Day 2024

The annual celebration of the events industry is taking place on April 11. 

The U.S. Travel Association's Global Meetings Industry Day, to be held this year on April 11, is an annual day of advocacy that brings event professionals together. Repeating last year's theme of Meetings Matter, this year's lineup includes both in-person and virtual offerings. From the nation's capital to Canada, here's where you can celebrate GMID 2024. MPI Livestream

Meeting Professionals International is hosting a 12-hour broadcast on April 11, starting at 7 a.m. ET. Every hour will feature a new theme, such as the "event professional's ordinary world" during hour one, "crossing the first threshold of the planning process" during hour five and "approach to the event date" during hour seven. The lineup of speakers includes Carina Bauer, CEO of IMEX; Annette Gregg, CEO of the Society of Incentive Travel Excellence; Jason Dunn, CEO of the National Coalition of Black Meeting Professionals; and Alice Harrington-Caravello, Marriott's vice president of account sales and national group sales.

Meetings Mean Business

The Meetings Mean Business Alliance of North Carolina is kicking off GMID with a session about politics and the effects it has on the meetings industry, hosted by the North Carolina Travel Industry Association. There also will be education sessions on artificial intelligence and how planners can use it to their advantage, air travel's impact on the industry, and a planner and supplier panel. All events will take place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

MIC Colorado

The Meetings Industry Council Colorado chapter is holding an event at the University of Denver's Fritz Knoebel Center. Participants will have the opportunity to network with fellow event professionals, gain insights from speakers and explore career opportunities. The agenda includes two hours of education sessions, speed dating-style mentoring and a reception.

MPI Chicago

Meeting Professionals International's Chicago chapter will gather at the Convene Willis Tower on April 11. The event will highlight AI trends in the industry, followed by a panel discussion and a hands-on activity. Attendees must register by 5 p.m. on April 10.

MPI New York

In collaboration with SITE Northeast, the Live Events Coalition, International Live Events Association New York Metro, the International Association of Exhibitions and Events' New York chapter, the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International New York chapter, the Professional Convention Management Association New York area chapter, and the National Society for Black Wedding Event Professionals, MPI New York is celebrating GMID at Convene's newly renovated space at 101 Park Ave. Being held from 5-8 p.m., the agenda includes a welcome reception, CSR activity and a panel on inclusion moderated by Shalynne Jackson, CEO for the City of Oklahoma City, followed by a networking reception.

MPI Toronto

GMID 2024 goes international with the Toronto chapter of MPI. Taking place at 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., the day will consist of time for networking, a keynote speaker, break-out sessions and a program for students. Keynote speaker Shaun Boothe is an award-winning hip-hop artist, TEDx speaker and creator of "The Unauthorized Biography Series." Venue details have yet to be released.

PCMA Capital Chapter

The PCMA Capital chapter's GMID festivities will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Programming will include a keynote on the state of congress and the 2024 election, as well as a panel discussion on the workforce, labor and unions within the meetings industry.

PCMA Philadelphia

Join PCMA's Greater Philadelphia chapter at the CYTO | PHL at the Circa Centre for a conversation about bridging gaps at work and embracing differences. Tim Hines, CMO of Marketing Starter Group, will lead a discussion on "Gen Y and Gen Z Influencers: How We Can Harness the Power of the New Generations and Work Better Together." After that, Hines will moderate a panel with Kyle Bixby, meetings and exhibits coordinator for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery; Theresa Barrett, deputy executive vice president of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians; Edward Baten, complex general manager for the W Philadelphia and the Element Hotel; and Erica Rudy, Hyatt's university programs manager.
