The International Exposition Center in Cleveland will continue operating as a premier venue for trade shows and exhibitions, ending more than a year of uncertainty surrounding the facility's future.
The announcement comes after the venue hosted what was widely believed to be its final event in March. News of the decision drew nearly 600 comments on social media by the weekend, with the response largely positive.
"The car show, the RV show, home and garden show, yes! Bring them all back to the IX center!" said one Facebook user, and another remarked: "Great news for the region."
One of the nation's largest event venues
The 2.2 million-square-foot I-X Center is one of the largest single-building convention centers in the United States. The facility offers more than 500,000 square feet of exhibition and conference space and welcomes approximately 1 million visitors a year.
Adjacent to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, the center has served as a major events destination in Northern Ohio for more than 40 years.
Uncertain future
The city owns the building, which is leased to a group of industrial real estate developers. During a city council meeting in June 2025, Cleveland officials said the developers were pursuing a Fortune 100 tenant, a move that would have ended the property's tenure as an exposition center. While efforts were made to bring events to the I-X Center ahead of the proposed redevelopment, discussions became tied to lease-extension negotiations between the developers and the city.
In February 2026, reports indicated that a deal with the prospective tenant, reportedly an electric-vehicle battery manufacturer seeking up to 1.5 million square feet of space, had fallen through. Even so, no new events were announced at the time, leaving questions about the facility's future unanswered.
Events return
That changed this week, with several events already on the calendar.
"The I-X Center has long been a premier destination for consumer shows and industry trade events in this region," said Lisa Vo, general manager of the I-X Center. "We are pleased to continue delivering the high-quality events and experiences our clients and attendees expect, backed by the operational excellence that has defined the I-X Center for decades."
According to a release, the facility will continue to be marketed to manufacturing users capable of bringing significant jobs and investment to the Cleveland area.
