Events Industry Council Launches Survey for CMP Exam

Responses from event professionals will help evolve the industry's most recognized certification.

The Events Industry Council is inviting event professionals to participate in a survey that will help evolve the industry's most recognized designation, the certified meeting professional standards and exam.

As the global federation that manages the CMP program, which was launched in 1985, the EIC is conducting a competency profile project, which is done every five to seven years. This collaborative process will incorporate input, feedback and expertise from industry professionals via focus groups, a task force and the survey. The result will be an updated exam and its accompanying study materials, which will launch sometime in 2024 or 2025.

"As our sector continues to evolve, adapt and innovate, the CMP program is evolving to ensure its relevance now and into the future," said Amy Calvert, CEO of the EIC. "The CMP competency profile project is critical to identifying the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for global event professionals to maximize their strategic value to their organizations in support of a relevant, equitable and sustainable industry."

Current CMPs will receive 1 continuing education credit for completing the survey, which will appear in their CMP profile if their name and email are provided upon completion. Event professionals who do not have their CMPs are eligible to receive a 5 percent discount on the EIC's Sustainable Event Professional Certificate program if they take the survey.

"EIC engaged focus groups and a task force — business event volunteers from around d the world — and also utilized the expertise of the CMP exam administrator, Prometric, to manage the focus groups and coordinate the updates to the exam," said Timothy Glanzer, founder and CEO of Elevated Meetings Solutions, and chair of the CMP Governance Commission. "These measures provide for a sound, globally relevant approach to the Competency Profile project and the future growth of the CMP program."

The survey takes about 30 minutes to complete and is available here through Nov. 30.
