Destinations International has released its 2023 annual report, highlighting a year of growth and achievement. The report aims to underline DI's role in enhancing the impact of destination marketing organizations around the world.
Key highlights include a record-breaking year with 107 new members, bringing the total to more than 700 and expanding the association's reach across 30 countries and territories. DI also saw the enhanced use of its event impact calculator, particularly among small convention and visitor bureaus, and in sports tourism.
Last year, DI introduced the "community vitality wheel," which demonstrates the importance of CVBs for destinations, as well as the 2023 DestinationNext Futures Study. More than 800 destination leaders from 62 countries responded to the survey on key tourism trends and strategies.
"2023 was a transformative year for Destinations International, driven by unprecedented membership growth and the successful launch of innovative tools and resources that support our global community," said Don Welsh, president and CEO of the organization. "As we release this annual report, we are inspired by the achievements of our members and the resilience of the travel and tourism sector."
Equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives continued to advance, including the debut of the EDI Summit and the social impact assessment tool, which is used by more than 200 members.
Finally, the Destinations International Foundation raised more than $1.2 million in 2023. The funds go toward developing new tools and resources, the 30 Under 30 program, and other projects, such as the Historically Black Colleges and Universities scholarship.
