Sonesta International Hotels has announced a partnership with Meeting Professionals International and its Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate program. The move strengthens Sonesta's ability to serve medical meetings, which have stringent compliance guidelines set by pharmaceutical, medical-device and biotech companies. Sonesta claims to be the first major hotel company to offer HMCC Verified Venues.
The hotelier's portfolio includes 1,100 properties across nine countries. It is the 8th-largest hotel company in the United States, according to STR.
All of Sonesta's full-service hotels have undergone the HMCC Verified Venue training. The verification process requires at least 10 percent of total venue employees, including two staff members per location, to hold the HMCC certification, which much be recertified every two years. Sonesta plans to work closely with industry professionals to ensure continuous education and adherence to evolving health-care meeting regulations.
"At Sonesta, we recognize the unique needs of medical meetings and
are committed to setting a new industry standard for compliance and
excellence," said Brian Macaluso,
vice president of global sales at Sonesta. "Through this partnership
with MPI, we are equipping our teams with the expertise necessary to
host compliant and seamless medical meetings, reinforcing our
full-service hotels as premier venues for the health-care industry."
