Top 10 U.S. Hotels Opening in 2020

A sampling of next year's grandest openings throughout the United States.

The new year promises new hotels, with about 207,000 rooms under construction in the U.S., according to Jan Freitag, senior vice president of lodging insights at STR. While the majority of those are in the limited-service segment, 22,769 guest rooms in the upper tiers should be ready to roll out the red carpet for groups next year

Following is a preview of some of the most anticipated grand openings for 2020.

1. Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley

Paradise Valley, the affluent suburb of Phoenix, will finally get its promised luxury property when the Ritz-Carlton opens next summer. The property will span 20 acres of citrus orchards and gardens with the Camelback, Mummy and McDowell mountains as backdrop. In addition to 215 guest units, made up of luxury suites and detached casitas, plans call for 20,000 square feet of event space. Among other highlights: an expansive spa, a health and fitness center, and an amphitheater. Eateries will emphasize seasonal produce from the resort's herb garden and citrus orchard

The Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley, will be the centerpiece of a $2 billion, 122-acre community called the Palmeraie, with space for 70 boutiques and restaurants, also set to open in 2020. 

2. The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood

With just three other properties, one in Chicago, Tampa and Boston, the Godfrey Hotel brand is expected to open its fourth incarnation, the 220-room Godfrey Hotel Hollywood, early next year. Just off Sunset Boulevard, the hotel will have 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, the About Last Knife steak house, multiple bars, an open-air courtyard and a rooftop pool. The high-end property promises business-focused amenities including technology to facilitate hybrid meetings.

3. The Ben, Autograph Collection

• West Palm Beach, Florida

• Opening in January 2020

The Ben West Palm, a Marriott Autograph Collection, will offer 7,791 square feet of meeting space.

Set to open in West Palm Beach in January, the 208-room Ben, a Marriott Autograph Collection property, will offer 7,791 square feet of meeting space, a rooftop pool, and Spruzzo, an open-air bar and grill. With views of both the Palm Harbor Marina and the Intracoastal Waterway, the Ben is within walking distance of the retail thoroughfares of Clematis and Main streets, as well as the newly rebranded Rosemary Square neighborhood with dining, shopping and a cultural-arts theater (formerly CityPlace).

The property was named in honor of Byrd and Fred Dewey, co-founders of Boynton Beach, Fla., whose original estate was called Ben Trovato. The hotel will blend Florida history with modern touches like mobile check-in and smart appliances.

4. Loews Kansas City

• Kansas City, Missouri

• Opening in spring 2020

Loews Kansas City will open in spring 2020.

Connected to the 580,800-square-foot Kansas City Convention Center by a foot bridge, the 800-room Loews Kansas City Hotel will add 60,000 square feet of event space to the site, including a 27,000-square-foot ballroom.

Within easy walking distance are the Sprint Center arena and the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Also steps away is the KC Streetcar, a free, 16-stop rail line that connects the city’s dining and entertainment districts.

5. Kimpton Bozeman

• Bozeman, Montana

• Opening in early 2020

The historic National Guard Armory building in Bozeman, Mont., is being transformed into a 122-room hotel with 8,000 square feet of meeting space, and lots of cultural appeal. Plans call for a speakeasy with live entertainment, a concert hall and a rooftop pool with views of the Bridger Mountain Range.

The Kimpton Bozeman will be the brand's first property in Big Sky Country. "We've had our eye on Montana for a long time," Mike DeFrino, CEO, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, has said. "The backdrop of the mountains and its appeal to the adventure seeker is the ideal place to showcase our brand."

The National Guard Armory building was constructed in 1941 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The venue will retain its art deco design.

6. Circa Resort & Casino Las Vegas

• Las Vegas, Nevada

• Opening in December 2020

Circa will be first downtown Las Vegas resort to be built since 1980.

The first downtown Las Vegas resort to be built since 1980, the 44-floor, 777-room Circa Resort & Casino Las Vegas is set to open in December 2020. 

A stadium-style sportsbook promises to be the largest in Vegas, featuring a massive video screen and broadcasting studio. Six tiered pools will be set beneath a 125-foot high-resolution screen that can be used for events. Plans call for five restaurants, multiple bars and a split-level casino. At press time, meeting space details were yet to be determined. 

7. Margaritaville Resort New York

• New York, New York

• Opening in late 2020

Palm trees will grace the pavement of this concrete jungle with the opening of Margaritaville Resort NYC by the end of next year. The 234-room resort will have Margaritaville's "casual-luxe" design elements, along with a rooftop pool. A Flow Rider wave machine will invite guests to surf just off Times Square.

Visitors will be able to chill in the  St. Somewhere Spa, or in casual lounge areas promising skyline views. F&B options will adhere to brand standards -- the Margaritaville restaurant, LandShark Bar & Grill, 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar, Floridays Airstream Café -- along with the new-concept License to Chill Bar. An as-yet-undisclosed amount of retail outlets and meeting rooms also are planned for the space.

8. W Philadelphia

• Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

• Opening in January 2020

The W Philadelphia will debut as part of the first dual-branded W and Element project. The 295-room W and 460-room Element Philadelphia will occupy a 51-story skyscraper set between the city’s business, arts and retail districts.

The W, taking floors 32 through 49, will feature 22 meeting rooms, a bar terrace, a fitness center and a lap pool. With a combined total of 46,000 square feet of meeting space, both hotels will promise panoramic views across the city. 

9. Grand Hyatt Nashville

• Nashville, Tennessee

• Opening in fall 2020

The 591-room Grand Hyatt Nashville (pictured at the top of this article) is scheduled to be unveiled in fall 2020 as the brand’s 12th U.S. property and the first tenant to open in Nashville Yards, a 17-acre mixed-use development 10 miles from Nashville International Airport. On the drawing board are 77,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 20,000-square-foot grand ballroom and 32 meeting rooms, with floor-to-ceiling windows throughout. The property’s west side will face a 1.3-acre public park accessible by a pedestrian ramp.

Also planned for Nashville Yards is an entertainment district from Anschutz Entertainment Group and MGM Resorts International, with music venues, a boutique hotel and other attractions. 

10. The Otis Hotel, Autograph Collection

• Austin, Texas

With 347 rooms and 7,100 square feet of meeting space, a dual-branded property will bring the Otis Hotel, a Marriott Autograph Collection property, and the AC Hotel Austin to the southwest corner of the University of Texas at Austin campus.

The Otis will offer 191 rooms, a restaurant, a street-side walk-up burger window, and a rooftop bar and pool. The guest rooms will honor Austin’s music legacy with in-room vinyl-record players. The 156-room AC Hotel Austin will feature a media salon, a restaurant and a bar. Signature cocktails and tapas will be available at the AC Lounge on the second floor, which will have outdoor seating.
