Canopy, the lifestyle hotel brand by Hilton, is fast expanding its footprint with the recent opening of a pair of new properties: Canopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District and Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown. Each property follows the brand's mission to provide "a natural extension of its neighborhood and [deliver] a fresh approach to hospitality and the guest experience." These properties double the brand's U.S. hotels and offer meeting options with a heavy focus on local charm and amenities.
The 150-room Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown, located in Dallas' Uptown district in the middle of more than 100 shops, restaurants and entertainment venues also includes 3,500 square feet of meeting space with views of the Dallas skyline. The 153-room Portland Pearl District offers almost 1,100 square feet of meeting space in the heart of Portland, Ore.'s downtown among boutique shops and art galleries.
Both properties offer a number of programs that showcase the destination. This includes the dog-friendly Paws in the Neighborhood initiative, which provides a welcome gift for both visiting dogs and a pastry for their owners from the local Bisous Bisous bakery. Local experts, aka Canopy Enthusiasts, are also on hand for local recommendations and tips. The properties will also host complimentary craft beer tastings in their Canopy Central lobby each evening.
"Canopy by Hilton's thoughtfully local choices and surprising extras have been part of the brand DNA since its inception," said Gary Steffen, global head of Canopy by Hilton, in a statement. "Each property is a natural extension of its neighborhood as seen through local design, food, and drink and culture. Canopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District and Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown are both located in key urban cities with vibrant neighborhoods that offer a fresh, positive stay for guests."
Each of the hotels aims to attract groups with unique attractions specific to the property's location, speaking to the growing demand from planners for a "sense of place" when it comes to their hotels. The Portland location has hired a curator, Elizabeth Leach, to selects works from local artists to showcase around the hotel. The Dallas property includes design elements such as vintage bricks from McKinney Avenue and a refurbished piece of the M-Line Trolley.
The openings of Canopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District and Canopy by Hilton Dallas Uptown brings to five the total number of properties in the portfolio, including Reykjavik, Iceland, and Washington D.C.'s Bethesda North and The Wharf neighborhoods. Almost 30 hotels are scheduled to open in the next six years in interesting neighborhoods in Zagreb, Croatia; Chengdu, China; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as well as Atlanta Midtown and another Dallas property in the Frisco Station neighborhood.
"We have seen a growing demand from ownership groups who are looking to develop in dynamic neighborhoods, and with the Canopy by Hilton brand, developers are able to offer travelers a fresh approach to hospitality and the lifestyle category as a whole," said Steffen.
