Visit Baltimore, the city's official convention and visitor's bureau, has announced a leadership transition plan for when president and CEO Al Hutchinson steps down on June 30. Per the plan, Kireem Swinton, who currently serves as the CVB's vice president and of sales and customer experience, will assume the role of interim president and CEO effective July 1.
Swinton will bring more than two decades of industry experience to the role. He joined Visit Baltimore in 2017 and has been instrumental in securing major citywide booking, such as the 2033 American Society of Association Executive's Annual Meeting & Exposition. Swinton also has held senior roles at Visit Seattle and Marriott International.
"I'm honored to step into this interim role to lead a dynamic team that continues to position Baltimore as a world-class destination," said Swinton. "As we move forward, I am committed to amplifying Baltimore's positive stories, fostering relationships across the city and driving innovative strategies that attract major conventions and leisure visitors at this exciting time in our city's history."
The transition plan was approved unanimously by the Baltimore Convention and Tourism Board on March 19. To help ensure a smooth transition, Hutchinson will remain with the organization in a consulting role for at least six months after his contract as president and CEO expires at the end of June. The BCTB will assess the success of the transition before the end of 2025 and make adjustments at that time as needed.
"Kireem's skills, expertise and industry knowledge make him the perfect choice," said Hutchinson. "I'm proud of what we've built together so far, and I look forward to supporting the board, Kireem and our best-in-class team through this transition to ensure that Baltimore's tourism industry continues to thrive."
