Polaroid Snap Touch Offers Colorful Self-Printing

The newly announced Polaroid Snap Touch brings a higher resolution, 13-megapixel sensor, a 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD, and 1080p high definition video to the colorful self-printing camera.

Like any Polaroid -- classic or reborn -- the heart of the product is the ability to immediately print the image taken from its film cartridge and hand it around. This uses 2-inch by 3-inch ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology paper which the printer uses heat to activate and colorize dye crystals embedded in the paper. The result is full-color, smudge-proof images created without ink cartridges, ribbons, or toner. The paper also has a peel-off adhesive back which turns it into a sticker. And it can print with or without the classic Polaroid white border.

Images are stored on a removable micro SD card and can be viewed on the 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen, which allows the user to frame shots and navigate the camera's menu. Color, black and white, and sepia options are available. The Bluetooth-enabled camera connects to an iOS and Android app that can be used for editing images. It also allows users to import and edit other images, which can then be printed on the Snap Touch. Along with the touchscreen, a timer and a "selfie mirror" --a small, outward-facing mirror on the pop-up flash - allows users to take better selfies.

The Polaroid Snap Touch has a suggested retail price of $179.99 and the 2-inch by 3-inch ZINK paper will go for $12.99 for a 20-pack from C&A Global. It is available in white, black, pink, blue, red, and purple.
